ALBEDO
Laure Winants with her project ALBEDO is based on a long-term research around natural elements, this research project proposes an experimental photographic study of the traces that climatic fuctuations and dynamics draw on Earth and matter.
To detect these markers of change, Laure Winants has surrounded herself with a multidisciplinary team whose approach is centered on climatology and their measurement tools: Field forecasting, Data and Sensing Instrumentation.
The various traces of climate fluctuations are present in the series in the form of samples, the material inventory and the small experimental formats in the showcase. The different traces were collected in situ; particles in the atmosphere including sand from the Sahara, the phenomenon of pink algae, micro-plastics and black carbon as well as other minerals on the surface of the Pyrenean snow cover.
Laure Winants (b.1991) is a research-based visual artist from Brussels.
Laure's artistic practice specializes in working closely with scientists and their manipulation in the feld of new technological instruments, such as sensors, lidar, spectrometre, and all kinds of scientifc tools that helps us to listen and to better understand the movement of our earth and environment. She has an extensive
history of bridging art and science through a variety of photography practices. In particular, her work has examined volcanic activity in Island, mega-fires issues in Brazil, and, most recently, the effects of climate change in the Pyrenees Mountains with the CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifque) in Toulouse.
Working side by side with researchers from CNRS Occitanie Ouest et CNES Centre National Etudes Spatiales in France, Laure has been experiencing some time in residency at 2800 meter height at the astronomy and atmospheric Observatory of Pic du Midi de Bigorre in the Hautes- Pyrénées. She is now on an scientific expedition studying arctic ice snows in Svalbard as part of the UNIS's Oceanographic Mission this spring 2023.
Laure has exhibited her work internationally in Berlin, Reykjavik, Brussels, Paris and soon in Stockholm, Luxembourg and Osaka. Her work has entered the collection of several foundations such as the Fondation des Arts du Luxembourg and the Palais de Liège.

Laure Winants, con il suo progetto ALBEDO, si concentra su una ricerca a lungo termine attorno agli elementi naturali. Questo progetto di ricerca propone uno studio fotografico sperimentale delle tracce che le fluttuazioni e le dinamiche del clima disegnano sulla Terra, e sulla materia. Per cogliere questi segni di cambiamento, Laure Winants si è circondata di un'équipe multidisciplinare il cui approccio è incentrato sulla climatologia e i suoi strumenti di misura: previsioni sul campo, dati e strumentazione di rilevamento.
Nella serie, le varie testimonianze delle fluttuazioni climatiche sono presentate sotto forma di campioni, materiali di inventario e piccole sperimentazioni in vetrina. Le diverse tracce sono state raccolte in situ; particelle nell'atmosfera con inclusioni di sabbia del Sahara, il fenomeno delle alghe rosa, microplastiche e carbonio nero, nonché altri minerali rilevati sulla superficie del manto nevoso dei Pirenei.
Laure Winants (n. 1991) è un'artista visiva di Bruxelles specializzata nella ricerca. La pratica artistica di Laure è incentrata sul lavoro a stretto contatto con scienziati e le loro manipolazioni nel campo dei nuovi strumenti tecnologici, quali sensori, lidar, spettrometri e ogni tipo di strumenti scientifici che ci aiutano a carpire e a comprendere meglio il movimento della nostra terra e dell'ambiente. In particolare, la sua ricerca ha preso in esame l'attività vulcanica in Islanda, i problemi dei grandi roghi in Brasile e, più recentemente, gli effetti dei cambiamenti climatici sui Pirenei con il CNRS (Centro nazionale per la ricerca scientifica) di Tolosa.
Lavorando fianco a fianco con i ricercatori del CNRS Occitanie Ouest e CNES Centre National Etudes Spatiales in Francia, Laure ha trascorso un periodo di residenza a 2800 metri di altezza presso l'Osservatorio astronomico e atmosferico del Pic du Midi de Bigorre, negli Hautes-Pyrénées. Nella primavera del 2023, è impegnata in una spedizione scientifica per lo studio dei ghiacci artici alle Svalbard nell'ambito della missione oceanografica dell'UNIS.
Laure Winants ha esposto le sue opere a livello internazionale a Berlino, Reykjavik, Bruxelles, Parigi e presto anche a Stoccolma, Lussemburgo e Osaka. Il suo lavoro è entrato a far parte della collezione di diverse fondazioni come la Fondation des Arts du Luxembourg e il Palais de Liège.
